XAUUSD $4100 Trap is becoming one of the key levels for gold traders after the sharp September selloff. Spot gold is trading around the $4,155–$4,165 area, while the market is still trying to recover from the recent move toward $4,110. My current bias is bearish below $4,220, but I do not want to chase a short in the middle of the range. The real decision comes if gold tests $4,110 again. A clean break could expose $4,044, while a strong rejection could create another short-term recovery.
The $4100 Level Is More Important Than It Looks
Gold already showed that buyers are willing to defend the $4,110 zone. The recent low around $4,110 created a sharp reaction, and price later climbed back above $4,170. That tells me liquidity was sitting below the market and some sellers may have been caught after the first downside expansion.
Still, one bounce does not automatically create a bullish reversal. On the H4 structure, gold remains below the major resistance zone around $4,220. The broader move from the $4,300 area has produced lower highs and aggressive downside candles, so I am treating the current rebound as a recovery inside a damaged structure until price proves otherwise.
I noticed this difference clearly when comparing the latest recovery with the earlier selloff. Momentum improved, but structure did not fully repair itself. That is an important distinction because traders often see one strong green candle and immediately assume the entire trend has changed.
The earlier XAUUSD breakdown structure also showed why major psychological levels can become important after a fast decline. Once support is lost, the same area can later act as resistance during a recovery.
Why $4044 Is Now on the Radar
The technical map becomes much cleaner below $4,110. RoboForex's current H4 analysis also identifies $4,110 as the main support and $4,044 as the next downside area if that support breaks. Their analysis also places $4,220.20 and $4,260 as important resistance levels for weakening the bearish structure.
For me, the important part is not simply saying “$4,044 is the target.” The market first needs to show acceptance below $4,110. A quick wick underneath the level followed by a strong recovery would look very different from an H4 candle closing below it.
This is where a liquidity sweep can become dangerous. If sellers attack $4,110, trigger stops, and price immediately returns above the level, late shorts can become trapped. That type of move can create a fast squeeze toward $4,160, $4,200 or even $4,220.
I have seen this behavior many times around large psychological numbers. Round levels attract orders from both sides. Retail traders often place stops just above or below them, while larger participants can use the available liquidity before the real direction becomes visible.
My Bearish XAUUSD Scenario
My current bearish bias stays active while gold remains below $4,220. The first warning for buyers would be a failed recovery around $4,200–$4,220. If price reaches that area and sellers respond with a lower high, the market could rotate back toward $4,160 and then retest $4,110.
A confirmed H4 break below $4,110 would change the short-term setup. In that situation, $4,044 becomes the next major reference zone rather than an immediate guaranteed destination. Price can still pause around intermediate liquidity before reaching that area.
Another useful reference is the recent support bounce breakdown. The lesson is simple: a bounce from support has less value when price cannot reclaim the resistance that caused the original breakdown.
That is why I would watch the sequence rather than one candle: $4,220 rejection → $4,160 loss → $4,110 retest. If that sequence develops, sellers would have a clearer technical path. If gold instead breaks $4,220 and holds above it, I would stop treating $4,044 as the immediate downside focus.
DXY and Treasury Yields Are Still a Problem for Gold
The macro backdrop is not giving gold an easy recovery. Reuters reported that spot gold was around $4,155.60 on October 1, while rising 10-year Treasury yields and a stronger dollar were limiting upside. September also produced a decline of more than 6% for gold.
The dollar is another important piece of the puzzle. The DXY reached around 101.663, a three-month high, while Treasury yields remained elevated. That combination can increase pressure on a non-yielding asset such as gold, especially when traders are adjusting expectations around Federal Reserve policy.
At the same time, the latest inflation data created a conflicting signal. Softer inflation reduced the market's implied probability of an October rate hike to roughly 37%, according to Reuters. That normally gives gold some breathing room, but the high-yield and strong-dollar environment is limiting the reaction.
For the full macro background, my earlier gold pivot and yield analysis explains why the relationship between Treasury yields and XAUUSD matters during these sharp price swings.
What NFP Could Do to the $4100 Setup
The next major catalyst is the September Nonfarm Payrolls report, scheduled for October 2. Traders will not only watch headline payroll growth. Unemployment, wage growth and revisions can also change expectations around future Federal Reserve policy.
A stronger employment report could support the US dollar and Treasury yields, creating another test of gold's downside structure. A weaker report could reduce rate-hike pressure and give gold buyers a reason to defend $4,110 again.
That makes the New York session especially important. I would rather see the market establish direction after the data than predict the first candle. NFP volatility can create a fake breakout before the real move starts.
This is also where FOMO becomes dangerous. A trader sees gold break $4,110 by $10 or $15 and jumps into a short without waiting for confirmation. If price snaps back above the level, the same trader may be forced to exit at a much worse price.
ISHAAN SMALL TIPS
Do not chase the first break of $4,110. I prefer waiting for an H4 close or a clear retest before treating the breakdown as meaningful. If gold sweeps $4,110 and quickly recovers, watch for a possible retail trap instead of blindly selling. If price stays below the level, then $4,044 becomes the next major reference. Keep position size smaller during NFP because spreads and volatility can expand quickly. Most importantly, define the invalidation level before entering. A clean chart does not remove risk. Protecting capital comes before catching every move.
Where the Bullish Scenario Starts
The bearish view is not permanent. Gold can change the structure if buyers reclaim important resistance. The first level I want to see recovered is $4,200, followed by a sustained move above $4,220.
If price breaks $4,220 and holds, the immediate bearish pressure would weaken. A move toward $4,260 would then become technically relevant. That does not automatically mean a new uptrend, but it would tell me that sellers are losing control of the recovery.
I noticed one more thing on the current structure: the rebound from $4,110 happened despite the dollar remaining firm. That relative strength from gold buyers matters. If yields cool while DXY also retreats, the recovery could become stronger than the current H4 chart suggests.
The opposite is also true. If DXY stays near its recent highs and Treasury yields remain elevated, gold may struggle to hold recovery attempts. That is why I am keeping the $4,220 resistance and $4,110 support together rather than focusing on only one side.
My XAUUSD Bias for the Next Move
Right now, my XAUUSD bias is bearish below $4,220. I am not calling $4,044 a guaranteed destination. The market must first break and accept below $4,110. Until that happens, the possibility of another liquidity sweep and rebound remains open.
The key map is simple: $4,220 resistance, $4,200 psychological pivot, $4,160 reaction zone, $4,110 major support and $4,044 downside reference. These levels give me a cleaner framework than trying to predict every candle.
The recent XAUUSD breakdown sequence is also useful context because fast gold selloffs often create several layers of resistance during recovery attempts.
Risk Warning
Gold can move sharply around NFP, Federal Reserve comments, Treasury yields and geopolitical headlines. A technical level is not a guarantee. The $4,110 breakdown can fail, while a bullish recovery can also fail around $4,200–$4,220.
Before any trade, define your entry, invalidation, position size and maximum acceptable loss. Never risk money you cannot afford to lose. This analysis is educational market commentary, not personalized financial advice or a guaranteed trading signal.
Conclusion
XAUUSD $4100 Trap is the level I am watching most closely. A clean H4 acceptance below $4,110 would put $4,044 back into focus, while a liquidity sweep followed by a strong recovery could trap late sellers.
For now, I remain bearish below $4,220, but I will not force a trade simply because the chart looks weak. The better information should come from how price behaves at $4,110 and how the market reacts to NFP. Structure first, confirmation second, risk control always.
