XAUUSD DXY 101.4: Can Gold Hold $4110?

XAUUSD trades near $4,157 after the $4,110 sweep as DXY holds around 101.4. Can gold reclaim resistance or retest the low?

XAUUSD DXY 101.4 is now one of the most important combinations to watch after gold suffered a sharp selloff and touched $4,110.55. Gold has bounced toward $4,157, but the rebound is still sitting inside a damaged short-term structure. My current view is cautiously bearish below $4,230, while $4,110 remains the key downside defense. This is not a confirmed bullish reversal yet.

The interesting part is the dollar. The DXY is trading around 101.4–101.5, close to a multi-month high, while Treasury yields remain elevated. That combination creates a difficult environment for non-yielding gold. Reuters reported that spot gold reached $4,157.39 on Tuesday after falling almost 4% in the previous session and touching $4,110.55, its lowest level since August 5.

XAUUSD DXY 101.4: Why $4110 Matters

The $4,110 area is more than a simple support level. After Monday's aggressive selloff, this zone became a clear liquidity point. Sellers pushed price into the area, stops were likely triggered below recent lows, and buyers appeared around the same zone. I am watching this as a potential liquidity sweep rather than immediately calling it a confirmed bottom.

XAUUSD chart showing the $4,110 liquidity sweep, $4,170 recovery zone and DXY 101.4 context

My first observation is simple: price reacted quickly from $4,110. That tells me buyers are still interested at lower prices. My second observation is that the recovery has not yet repaired the broken structure above $4,190–$4,230. Until that happens, I would treat the current move as a rebound inside a broader correction.

This type of move can create a classic retail FOMO trap. Traders see a strong green candle after a large drop and immediately assume the low is confirmed. That can become dangerous when the dollar remains strong. If XAUUSD rebounds but DXY continues holding above 101, gold may struggle to build sustainable upside momentum.

Traders who followed the earlier XAUUSD $4,320 breakdown setup will recognize why the current structure needs confirmation rather than emotion.

There is also a broader market issue. Reuters reported that markets were pricing roughly a 70% probability of another Fed hike in October and around 95% for December, while traders were waiting for PCE inflation data and Friday's nonfarm payrolls report. Higher rate expectations can support the dollar and increase the opportunity cost of holding gold.

That macro pressure matters because DXY strength is currently working against the gold rebound. Reuters also reported the dollar near multi-month highs as oil prices and Treasury yields remained elevated, with the two-year yield approaching 5%.

For me, the next important area is $4,170–$4,195. A clean reclaim would show that buyers are doing more than simply defending $4,110. Above that, $4,230 becomes the larger structural test. The earlier XAUUSD $4,400 breakdown discussion is also useful context because previous support failures can turn into resistance during recovery attempts.

My bearish case becomes stronger if gold reaches resistance and produces a clear rejection below $4,230. In that situation, sellers could try to retest $4,110. A decisive break beneath $4,110 would change the structure again and expose lower liquidity areas. I would not treat any downside level as a guaranteed target.

On the other side, bulls need evidence. A move above $4,230 followed by a successful retest would be much more meaningful than a single intraday spike. That kind of structure shift could reduce the immediate bearish pressure. Until then, buying directly into resistance carries a different risk profile than waiting for confirmation.

The second psychology issue is revenge trading after a sharp loss. A four-percent gold decline can make traders want to recover money quickly on the next candle. I think that is exactly when position size should become smaller, not larger. The market does not know what price a trader entered at.

The relationship between gold and macro risk is also becoming more complicated. Rising energy prices can increase inflation concerns, while geopolitical uncertainty can create safe-haven demand. That means gold can receive conflicting signals: safe-haven buying may support it, while higher yields and a stronger dollar may pressure it. This is why I would avoid reading only one indicator.

My third observation is that the New York session could be decisive. London may stabilize the price around $4,110–$4,170, but New York liquidity can produce a deeper sweep or a stronger reclaim. I want to see how price behaves after the initial U.S. volatility rather than chasing the first move.

The previous Fed trap around gold remains relevant to this setup because monetary-policy expectations can quickly change the dollar and Treasury-yield backdrop. Traders should also remember that economic data can invalidate a technical setup within minutes.

For the broader technical picture, I am watching $4,110 as the defense, $4,170–$4,195 as the first recovery zone, and $4,230 as the major confirmation area. If price remains below $4,230, my bias stays cautious to bearish. If price reclaims that zone and holds it during a retest, the short-term structure would deserve a fresh assessment.

The final piece is risk management. A trader does not need to predict whether $4,110 will definitely hold. The better question is what price action would prove the current idea wrong? For a bearish setup, that could be a sustained reclaim above $4,230. For a bullish rebound thesis, a clean break and acceptance below $4,110 would be a serious warning.

My fourth observation is that this is not a normal dip after a small correction. Gold just experienced a major intraday repricing, so volatility can remain unusually high. I felt the sharp reaction watching that $4,110 test, but that reaction is exactly why I would not chase the next candle.

My current XAUUSD bias is bearish below $4,230, neutral between major levels, and conditionally bullish only after a confirmed reclaim. The $4,110 zone is the line I am watching most closely. If it holds, gold can continue its recovery attempt. If it fails, the market structure opens the door to another downside liquidity move. The next major catalysts are inflation and employment data, so risk should remain controlled.

Bottom line: XAUUSD has defended $4,110 for now, but the rebound is not confirmed as a trend reversal. With DXY around 101.4 and rate expectations still elevated, I would watch $4,170–$4,195 first and $4,230 next. Until price proves otherwise, my bias remains cautious below $4,230.
